Cost-Effective Beef Buying
Understanding the economics of buying beef "on the hoof" is crucial for our customers. When you purchase beef directly from us the price you pay includes the animal; the cost of feed and finishing; transportation to the butcher and back to you. However, our price does not include processing . Since there are so many options from the butcher, there is no way we can anticipate that cost in advance. To be completely fair and transparent, we will pass along to you the exact processing fee from the butcher for your animal.
It's important to note that the weight of the live animal will not equal the amount of beef that ends up in your freezer due to processing losses. For instance, a 1,000 lb. animal typically yields about 600 pounds of hanging weight at the butcher shop. After processing, you can expect to take home approximately 432 pounds of edible beef. This includes around 130 lbs. of steaks, 110 lbs. of roasts, 20 lbs. of brisket and miscellaneous cuts, 30 lbs. of short ribs, 20 lbs. of stew meat, and 122 lbs. of ground beef.
While you'll receive a variety of cuts, including more "chucks and rounds" than "ribs and loin," rest assured that all pieces are premium quality and provide excellent value.
The cost of beef changes from year to year depending on the cattle market and processing fees. Our cost is lower than grocery store pricing.
Sharing Options and Guarantees
We understand that buying a whole cow may not be feasible for everyone. That's why we offer the option to split a beef with a friend, making a half beef or "side" a more manageable choice in terms of both cost and quantity. If you're looking for someone to share with, let us know, and we'll help match you with another customer.
Once you've made your purchase, we'll deliver your beef to the butcher, who will then process it according to your specifications. We will return it to you boxed and frozen. Steninger Ranch is here to assist with arranging and deciding on processing options to ensure you get exactly what you want.
